What is a cookie?
Cookies are small text files placed on your computer when you visit a website. They are likely to be stored all together in a dedicated cookies folder.

There are three types of cookies: session, persistent, and third-party. These files are all very different.

Session cookies have a short lifetime and are deleted when you close your browser. These may be used for example to remember what’s in your shopping basket, or to anonymously track your interactions with our website to give us a better idea of how visitors are using it.

Persistent cookies will stay on your device until they reach their expiry date. For example, cookies designed to remember your login name when you revisit our website.

Third-party cookies come from websites and services We may be embedding in our website, such as Google Analytics, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google Maps etc.
We will never store your personal data in a plain text cookie. We may store personal data in a secure, encrypted cookie, which can only be read by our servers.

We keep a record of page views which is logged automatically by our server. The data collected includes your Internet Protocol (IP) address, the page you visited and the website that may have referred you to ours. These records are kept for up to 3 months.

We also collect some site statistics such as access rates, page hits and page views. You are not able to identify any individual from traffic data or site statistics, as these are collected anonymously.

You don’t have to accept cookies

No matter which browser you use to visit websites (Edge, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari or one of many others), you can turn off cookies if you are concerned about your online privacy.

We use cookies for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, in most cases there are no industry standard options for disabling cookies without completely disabling the functionality and features they add to our website. It is recommended that you leave on all cookies if you are not sure whether you need them or not, in case they are used to provide a service that you use.

The method of disabling cookies varies from browser to browser. There is a comprehensive guide on AboutCookies.org (whose parent is law firm Pinsent Masons) which explains how you can both take control of and delete cookies on your computer. It also provides more information about the cookie law and what website owners need to do to comply with the new legislation.
